1. National Volunteer Week – ARIEL LOVES VOLUNTEERS!

   Time, Talent or Treasure – ARIEL Volunteers share more than just smiles!

   To all who sew, build, paint, move sets, usher, take tickets, work concessions, fold and staple programs, help back stage, shepherd kids, apply make-up, clean, organize and countless other things, we appreciate you more than we can say. ARIEL wouldn’t be ARIEL without you.  If you would like to become more involved with the community and make a difference in the lives of young people, consider sharing a bit of time, talent or treasure with ARIEL. 

   

   Volunteers of all ages help to create costumes for the upcoming production of Disney’s Lion King KIDS.

2. 2017 Season is in full swing at ARIEL!

   The Karen Wilson Children’s Theatre is in high gear with Chicken Little, Seussical™ and The Play’s the Thing. There’s singing, there’s dancing, and there are dozens of young people preparing to present exciting shows for the community while practicing Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Excellence and Leadership.  If your child has not had a chance to share in the magic of ARIEL, don’t delay! Registration is now open for the ARIEL production of Charlotte’s Web (ages 6 to 18) and Early Bird Tuition is available through February 10. Other favorites are right around the corner, including Jack and the Beanstalk, Peter Pan Three Week Summer Camp, and DISNEY’S THE LION KING KIDS Two Week Summer Camp. Catch the acting bug and sing your way through 2017 at ARIEL.

   

3. Early Bird Discount extended – Seussical™ & The Play’s the Thing

   2017 is right around the corner, and to ring in the new year, ARIEL is extending the early bird discount for Seussical™ and our day-time class, The Play’s the Thing. Receive a 10% discount when tuition is paid in full by January 3, 2017. Seussical™ rehearsals begin Saturday January 14 and will culminate in the annual Sherwood Hall performance run during the week of March 6 – 10 for 10,000+ school children from Salinas and all over Monterey County. The Play’s the Thing classes begin Friday, January 20 and run through Friday, February 17. We are thrilled to announce our first Kindergarten day-time theatre class along with two levels of combat choreography. Learning how to fight on stage takes timing and practice, but don’t fight the urge to start out the new  year with ARIEL Theatrical……and a little extra money in your pocket.

4. Celebrate the Holidays with Frog and Toad

   The Broadway production that will have you singing for cookies is playing at The Karen Wilson’s Children Theatre just in time for the holidays! This musical adaptation of Arnold Lobel’s award winning children’s stories is clever, heart-warming and hilarious! A Year with Frog and Toad joins best friends, Frog and Toad, as they leap through the four seasons with their very distinct personalities and perspectives on life, making a splash on stage with an eclectic cast of characters who follow the amphibious pair from one adventure to another.

   If you missed opening weekend, not to worry! A Year with Frog and Toad will be showing December 9, 10, 16, 17, Fridays at 7 pm and Saturdays at 2 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are available online (no extra fee), over the phone, or at our box office. Ticket prices are: $13 adults, $11 Students/Seniors/Miltary, $9 children. Make ARIEL a holiday tradition. 5. LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD THIS WEEKEND – OCTOBER 28 & 29 – Sponsored by Organic Girl and The Bakery Station

   Kids and kids-at-heart will enjoy ARIEL Theatrical’s delightful musical adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood with its doo-wop, fifties-inspired musical score. Follow Little Red Riding Hood as she skips through the forest, encountering the Wolf and discovering that Granny may not be who she says she is. Come along as Red learns that taking a short cut may not be the best way to reach your destination. Shows are Friday, October 28 at 7 pm and Saturday, October 29 at 2 pm and 7 pm. 7. ARIEL THEATRICAL ANNOUNCES THE 2017 SEASON!

   ARIEL Theatrical is thrilled to announce the 2017 Season which will include an exciting new Disney show, some favorites from the past and more opportunities than ever for local youth to participate in theatre arts. Gear up for an exciting year! The ARIEL performance programs will include:

   • Chicken Little – Rehearsals begin January, shows in February
   • Seussical™ – Rehearsals begin January, shows in March at Sherwood Hall
   • Charlotte’s Web – Rehearsals begin in March, shows in April/May
   • Jack and the Beanstalk – Rehearsals begin in April, shows in May
   • Peter Pan – Three-week summer camp, shows in June/July
   • Disney’s The Lion King KIDS – Two-week summer camp, shows in July
   • Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat – Community Summer Program, shows in August
   • You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown – Rehearsals begin in August, shows in October
   • Stone Soup – Rehearsals begin in September, shows in November
   • Narnia – Rehearsals begin in October, shows in December

   In addition to the season shows, ARIEL will offer three sessions of The Play’s the Thing, a day-time class for home schooled children, grades K-12. ARIEL will also continue the REACH Theatre program, a very rewarding partnership with the Special Kids Crusade.

8. HARDEN FOUNDATION AWARDS ARIEL $25,000 MATCHING GRANT

   September 22, 2016 – Salinas, CA ….After the fire next door and the resulting clean up and ongoing challenges caused by water and smoke damage, ARIEL Theatrical has been on an unexpected, uphill journey for months. However, the generous support of many within the community has given the children’s theatre company leverage to continue onward and upward. Last month, the Harden Foundation awarded ARIEL a matching grant that will provide a way to literally double contributions, up to $25,000. The power of this grant to amplify each donation is monumental as the valuable programs continue to benefit the entire community. All donations made in the 12 month funding period from the award date will be matched, dollar for dollar (up to $25,000), by the Harden Foundation. 9. The early bird may catch the worm, but the early Frog and Toad will catch a 10% tuition discount!

   Register for A Year with Frog and Toad (for youth ages 12-18) and pay in full by September 23, 2016 to get $25 off the regular rate. So, hop on over to ARIEL and drop off your registration form and payment, or scan and email your form to ariel@arieltheatrical.org. We can take credit card payments through email or over the phone. Rehearsals begin Saturday October 22 and the show runs for the first three weekends in December. Now is the time to jump on stage with Frog, Toad and ARIEL Theatrical. See you soon!

    Back to school means back to the stage with ARIEL! The end of 2016 is on the horizon, but there are plenty of characters to play and songs to sing with The Berenstain Bears On Stage (registration closed), Little Red Riding Hood (registration open) and A Year with Frog and Toad (registration open). And for the home schoolers, give theatre arts a try with ARIEL’s day-time class, The Play’s the Thing. Whatever your child’s age or level of ability, ARIEL programs will teach Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Excellence and Leadership, all while bringing colorful stories to life.
