Inspired by the Disney Channel smash hit movie, High School Musical is now playing at ARIEL, Fridays and Saturdays, through October 19. When two unsuspecting students discover each other and the talents they have been hiding they rely on their classmates to help them step out of their cliques and step up to new challenges. Join our teen cast as they sing their way from the East High cafeteria to the basketball court and everywhere in between. Whether they are shooting baskets, crunching numbers or standing in the spotlight, the Wildcats learn that they’re “all in this together.” Teens from local schools including Everett Alvarez, Marina, North Monterey County, Ocean Grove, Rancho San Juan, Salinas, Santa Catalina, Soledad and York join forces for this family friendly show.

  8. FAREWELL TO OUR MAESTRO – BARNEY HULSE

The maestro – Barney Hulse – in the glow of the piano light at ARIEL.

“Sunrise, sunset, swiftly fly the years.
One season following another, laden with happiness and tears.”

With great sadness we say good-bye to our friend and musical director, the extraordinary and lovely maestro, Barney Hulse. Barney, who passed away Sunday, September 9, brought music to our stage and patiently brought out the best in us in for more than 30 years.
It is inconceivable to imagine our productions without his brilliant piano accompaniment or our world without his generous and kind spirit. Thank you, Barney, for every beautiful note.
Please check back as we will update this news post with additional thoughts
from ARIEL participants, friends and colleagues.

  9. Big news! ARIEL receives $40,000 grant from the Harden Foundation!

The Harden Foundation has once again shown their support for ARIEL Theatrical in a big way. In addition to a $5,000 technology upgrade grant, ARIEL will receive dollar-for-dollar matching funds for all donations up to $35,000. As a non-profit that has invested in the young people of Monterey County for more than 30 years, ARIEL understands how providing positive activities for youth and encouraging principle-centered living helps to strengthen communities. An investment in ARIEL is an investment in the young people who are learning how to incorporate Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Excellence and Leadership into their every-day lives long after the curtain closes and the applause is over. Donations are accepted online, over the phone by calling 831-775-0976 or in person at The Karen Wilson Children’s Theatre at 320 Main Street, Salinas.
